Key Issues
Build a Virtual Electronic Collection (VEC), conceived and developed
within the existing conceptual framework of the Virtual Electronic
Library (VEL), consisting initially of at least five e-books prepared
and published by each participating CIC Press/Library team, but
envisioned and designed to potentially contain and deliver many
forms of scholarly publication.
Develop metadata/discovery and authentication/authorization
mechanisms whereby VEC content can be seamlessly, freely accessed
across the CIC community, with an eye to eventually making the
content available, via various reimbursement methods, to students
and scholars worldwide.
Develop a viable, sustainable business model for further CIC Electronic
Publishing activity wherein the VEL content and services are available
to students and scholars worldwide. The model will be presented to the
CIC Presidents and Provosts at their June 2002 meetings.
