About this Group
While their titles may vary, the Senior International Officers
serve to coordinate, promote, and support international activities
of their respective universities. Areas of responsibility include
fostering international expertise by facilitating faculty and
student research abroad, coordinating international exchanges
and study abroad, and supporting international scholarly activities
on the campus.
The Senior International Officers convene twice a year to share
and discuss issues of common concern. In addition, the group offers
guidance to the Study Abroad Directors and their related programs.
The CIC universities have long been leaders in international
education and research, offering rich opportunities for involvement
of students and faculty in international programs and projects.
Nearly a third of the nations 109 Title VI National Resource
Centers for language and area or international studies are located
on CIC campuses, as are seven federally-funded Centers for International
Business and Research and many other structures for the support
of international activity. Within the CIC, instruction is offered
in over 100 languages and cultures, and international opportunities
are available to students in over 1,000 study abroad programs,
as well as international exchanges, internships, and other programs
that give students first-hand experience in living and working
overseas.
