Institutional Change: Toward a Holistic Model of Diversity

CIC Diversity Forum
April 30, 2007
Ohio State University

The CIC Diversity Forum brings together faculty, administrators and staff from CIC member universities to critically examine issues and initiatives impacting diversity.  How can large, complex institutions establish structures and practices that result in greater diversity among students and faculty and lead to an enriched university environment? How can our institutional practices move us toward greater social good and transform our universities into more vibrant and diverse institutions?

This year's program will feature a keynote by Mitchell J. Chang, associate professor of higher education and organizational change at UCLA. Dr. Chang is an expert on diversity-related initiatives, and his remarks will focus on the ways that such initiatives can promote student learning and democratize institutions. Dr. Chang was profiled as a top 10 emerging scholar by Diverse: Issues in Higher Education (formerly Black Issues in Higher Education), January 12, 2006.

The program will also feature remarks by N. Rusty Barcelo, vice president and vice provost for equity and diversity at the University of Minnesota.   Dr. Barcelo will discuss holistic models of diversity and how such models can inform the ways that we organize and deliver services to support diversity.

The Diversity Forum will be followed on May 1 by the 13th Annual National Conference on Diversity, Race & Learning at The Ohio State University.  To register for the OSU conference, visit: oma.osu.edu/spprogs/ncdrl_2007/ncdrl.htm.
